Kevin was born in the woods of southern Minnesota where a 5th grade crush led him to the school orchestra so he could be near the object of his desires, and where he discovered his musical knack. Later, in high school, he played in concert and symphony orchestras all over the country as co-principal of the Bass section. He then picked up the electric bass guitar and started playing in rock bands all over Minnesota. After high school, he switched to country music and played at the Grand Ole Opry in a band competition and recorded his first demo. After more rock in Minnesota, he moved to San Diego to join the music scene. Kevin not only plays bass for the The Xceptions, he sings both back up vocals and leads.
Steve is a cross between an Okie and an Agie, which accounts for his
missing DNA. After getting his first musical training and regular
knuckle whacks in the church choir, and after attending high school and college in both Oklahoma and Texas, he left school just a teense early to go on the road as a rock musician. Steve then toured across the country fifty weeks a year for the next twelve years. While he did eventually finish up his proper schooling in San Diego, and while he did become a software and network engineer, he now contributes his crazy licks and three and a half octave range to a variety of Xceptions songs, and, reluctantly, we follow him as our musical director.
Joe was struck at the age of nineteen with an unquenchable desire to play drums. He moved to California in 1976 and joined a country/rock band called The Highboy Brothers Band; he played with them for seven years touring throughout Southern California. Joe has also played in a variety of other country bands, blues bands, and classic rock bands. Joe is a tournament winning fisherman, and sometimes, on the Colorado River, he’ll assemble a group, set up his “river drums” on the spot and entertain everyone floating by. Joe is a founding member of The Xceptions and plays drums and sings leads, especially those with a heart thumping country flavor.
